Sarangee
: made from the Khirra tree (which sometimes
take a full day's walk to find) the sarangee is a rustic
lap-held fiddle with a middle drone note. It is played
with a bamboo and horsetail bow.
Madal
: Nepal's unique two-ended, lap held drum.
The madal is versatile and the rythms are easy to
learn.
Basuree
: a simple bamboo flute, the bird-like sound
of the basuree often served as a cheerful introduction
to Gandharba songs.
Arbaj
: the original Gandharba
instrument over one meter long. It has four strings
(made from goat's intestine) and is played with a bamboo
plectrum. Nowadays it is rarely played because its size
makes it difficult to carry.
